The Great Falls was found in the year 1883 by Paris Gibson and James J. Hill. In the beginning the city began as a planned power city. In 1884 the Great Falls post office was recognized by the United States postal services. The city got enough hydro electric power due to the construction of the Black Eagle dam that supplied the city with abundant hydroelectric power. After its establishment the city in no time became a prosperous business and industrial center. Another reason behind its prosperity of the city was the opening of a military base nearby.
