The capital state of Montana Helena is the county seat of Lewis and Clark County. According to the census reports of 2000 Helena holds a total population of about 25,780 and combining the population of the surrounding areas the population reaches up to 67,636. The Helena regional airport connects the city with other countries of world. The town of Helena was established on 30th October, 1864 with the discovery of gold along the last chance creek by the Four Georgians. The Last Chance Gulch is the main street of Helena which follows the winding path of the original creek with the downtown district.

The town was originally named as "Crabtown" after the name of John Crab one of the four Georgians this name was later changed to Pumpkinville and again to Squash town. With the arrival of other minors from other different places the town got expanded and hence the name was changed once again. Ultimately it was John Sommerville suggested his hometown name Saint Helena, Minnesota and later on the name was changed to Helena by the minors in the city. The town rapidly developed in different aspects and by 1888 about 50 millionaires lived in Helena. The city developed in terms of its economy also.
The Guardian of the Gulch is the official symbol of Helena which is a wooden fire watch tower built in 1886. The tower still stands in the same manner on the "Tower Hill". There are many historic buildings located in Helena all of these serve as major touring destination of the city. The Civic Center and the Saint Helena Cathedral are two major historic buildings in Helena. Many schools are also located in Helena the Helena High school and the capital high school are the public high schools.
