The Montana region is a state located in the Pacific Northwest and in the Great Plains region of United States. The state is home to several mountain ranges. The state has derived its name from the Spanish word Montana. Montana has its nick name as the "treasure state". Certain other nick names of the city are like the "Land of Shining Mountains," "Big Sky Country," and "the last best place."
The state of Montana is ranked fourth in terms of area and 44th in terms of its population. It is considered as the state standing in third position with lowest density of population. Much of the population of the city is dependent on agriculture and on lumber and mineral extractions also.

The state of Montana was first inhabited by the Native American population. The groups that visited it included the Crow in the south-central area of Montana, the Cheyenne in the southeast, the Blackfeet, Assiniboine and Gros Ventres in the central and north-central area and the Kootenai and Salish in the west of the state. Many small tribes also lived here. After the finding of gold and copper in the state of Montana during the late 1850s the state became a United States territory on 26th may 1864.
Another territory of Montana Fort Shaw was established during the spring of 1867. This territory is located in the western portion of the Great Falls the city of Montana. Many military bases were also opened in Montana the other two posts in the Montana territory were the Camp Cooke on the river Judith and the Fort C.F.Smith on the Bozeman Trail.
