The state of Montana in the United States has a long history of cowboy songs and folk pioneer. Montana cowboy songs and folk pioneer is quite famous worldwide. There are two prominent musical institutions in Montana. Both these institutions are classical. One is the Great Falls Symphony Orchestra, established in the year 1958; the other is the Bozeman Symphony Orchestra, established in the year 1963. The oldest Montana musical institution is the Helena Symphony that was established in the year 1955.

Types of music. The types of native Montana music include Flathead, Blackfoot, Gros Ventre, Cheyenne, Crow, Chippewa-Cree, Sioux and Assiniboine.





There are two official state songs in Montana: one is “Montana”, and the other is “Montana Melody”. The famous Montana folk musician, Jack Gladstone, is a presenter, as well as a lecturer who deals with the Native themes of the land and has collaboration with Rob Quist.

Now, let’s focus on popular music in Montana State. Famous Montana country musicians include Rob Quist who was formerly a member of the Mission Mountain Wood Band. The other country musicians are Patsy Montana, born in Ruby Blevins in Arizona, and Wilf Carter, also known as Montana Slim, is from Canada and not from Montana. There are several other popular musicians from Montana like, guitarist/producer Steve Albini and Pearl Jam bassist Jeff Ament. Amongst the famous music band is Helena and Missoula's The Skoidats - the band who recorded on New York City's Moon Ska label in the late 1990's. Also the members of the Portland band, The Decemberists, are from Montana. Bruce Fairweather, the Grunge pioneer, is also from Montana.
