Madison River

Madison is a beautiful river in southwestern Montana with best dry fly fishing and scenic areas. The river stars its journey at the confluence of Gibbon and Firehole rivers in the Yellowstone National Park. The river flows north to Three Forks and joins the Jefferson and Gallatin rivers and finally the Missouri river. The river meanders through every type of geographical terrains from mountains and hilly regions to arable lands and high plains. Wild life abounds in the Madison River basin. The dense forest areas surrounding the sides of the river is the natural habitat of many wild animals and birds like moose, bear, mountain sheep, water fowls, grizzlies, turkey, elk and deer.

The Madison River area has a comparatively warm climate due to the presence of many natural hot springs and geysers. Madison river is full of rich nutrients. Late Charles Broooks called it the largest chalk stream in the world. The Madiosn River flows through beautiful valley silhouetted with mountains.



Popularly termed as “Fifty Mile Rifle” Madison River flows in a steady pace and does not have any boulders, slow pools and undercut banks in its route. The river is the natural habitat of large trout, cutthroat, browns, rainbows and cut-bows. The river can be waded easily opening scope for mass fishing and angling.

Madison river can be best accessed from Bozeman airport. A short drive form the airport can land the tourists near the river. The beautiful Hegben Lake lies in the Madison River route. The tourists get the opportunity to fish; boat and swim with float tubes. The Madion flows into Quake Lake and then to Ennis Lake after Hegben Lake. The water is strewed with brown trout and rainbow fishes over here. After Enis Lake Madison flows for thirty miles and meets the Gallatin and Jefferson forming the Missouri River.
