Glacier National Park

The Glacial National Park, tucked into the northwest corner of Montana, offers a majestic combination of over one million acres of mountains, lakes, rivers, valleys and a rich flora and fauna. Cited as a World Heritage Site, it is a paradise for hikers and trailers. What distinguishes the Glacial National Park from other National Parks in US is the fact that it is the only Park that is the home for many predatory animals, including black bears and mountain lions. Probably why the Park is strictly maintained and under much vigilance by the National Park Service. Sharing a border with the Waterton Lakes National Park in Canada, the two Park are together called Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park.

The sharp contrasts in the natural beauty of the Glacial National Park draws many visitors all through the year, though the peak season is from late May to early September. The winter season, weather permitting, offers much scope for activities such as skiing and snowmobiling, among others. The beautiful Flathead valley forms its boundary on its western border. The largest lake in Glacial National park is the Lake McDonald and there are more than three mountain peaks which are more than 10,000 feet, Mount Cleveland being the highest point at 10, 448 ft. A guided tour ensures that you do not miss the hot spots – the chalets, creeks and salt licks. Trace your fingers on the mountain walls. This rich texture you will remember for life!

There are many ways of getting around this National Park. Be it the shuttle services, private cars, guided lake tours and trails. Glacial National Park is not only a natural beauty spot, it is also the location architectural achievements, serious research and scientific investigation, both by the Government and individuals. One of the instances of such an architectural feat is the Going-for-the Sun Road, which is a 52 mile stone paved road and provides some of the most stunning views in the Glacial National Park. Accommodations are available both inside and outside the Park, though prior booking and reservation is suggested.
