Yellowstone National Park

Yellowstone National Park attained its status as the world's first national park on March 1, 1872. It is said that the Yellow stone region was inhabited by the native Americans for about 11000 years. The governing body of the park is National Park Service. The total park area is 8,983 km˛. The Park became an World Heritage Site in the year 1978.

Yellowstone National Park consists of canyons, rivers, mountain ranges, lakes and many other land features. Centered over the Yellowstone Caldera, the largest super volcano of the continent, Yellowstone lake is the largest high altitude lake. The Yellowstone National Park has hundreds of flora and fauna including the endangered species as well. There are unique species of plants in the vast grasslands and the forest areas. The park is a home for the Grizzlies, free-ranging herds of bison and wolves. Forest fire is a common feature of the park and happens every year.

There are roads designed for accessing the major geothermal areas of the park. The Old Faithful Geyser is one of the popular attraction of the park.
